Temple of Urine
Academic
Assoc. Prof. Dr. İpek Akpınar
Architectural Design V.
Spring 2017
Technical University of Istanbul

In a city where citizens feel refraining themselves from touching the sea and construction barriers serving as lavatory, Temple of Urine suggests a public complex where societal changes challenge and access to water becomes fundamental for converging the various levels of society.
Temple of Urine takes its roots from Pervititch’s plan of the area which was surpassed by a busy motorway. Plan footprints are shifted to the waterfront, allowing citizens to interact not only with each other, but also the water.
Influenced by the Advertisements for Architecture by Bernard Tschumi, Advertisements for Temple of Urine is created to remind architecture what essentially its profound duty is. Contrary to what Tschumi argues, here an architecture is built with various forms of media, including poetry.
