Rue Oberkampf shares the same gentrification process with many ex-working-class neighborhoods in Paris, even probably one of the most solid ones. The process goes shares same form everywhere. After heavy industrialization, area becomes deprived; creative personalities, artists, and people ( example: young folks ) seeking cheaper options on accommodation start to settle down in the area. Renting, buying, embellishment, creating a market from that, area becomes expensive bit by bit. The ameliorated conditions, good location attracts entrepreneurs as seeing it good investment. Real-estate prices and rents get skyrocketed, and then .

Desindustrialization left the area deprived and neglected quite a while until 80s, years which gentrification starts to take place. Owing to the industrial past, area was hosting vast spaces in which artists find enough space to work. This fact combined low cost in renting, precisely it was efficient option for artists.

Until the renovations and vivification from the new comers in 1990s, Rue Oberkampf was on the decay in terms of real-estate, social and economical atmosphere, for quite a long time. Rue Oberkampf was waken up from this long-time sleep with the help of new comers.  After 1990s, especially from year of 1995, area has been started to reflect the renewal of its population. According to demographics ( population total par category socioprofessionelle, nomenclature 1982, par APUR/ INSEE ) ,in terms of professions, there is a vigorous shift from employees and workers to superior professions.
